Biography

Prof Tsuyoshi Akiyama serves as president-elect of the World Federation of Mental Health. Prof Tsuyoshi Akiyama is the director of the department of quality improvement at the NTT Medical Center Tokyo, clinical professor in the department of psychiatry at Tokyo University, president of the Japanese Society for the Elimination of Barriers to Mental Health, secretary-general of the Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists and deputy chair of the International Committee of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology. In the past, Prof. Akiyama served as secretary for finances of the World Psychiatric Association and the board member of the World Federation of Mental Health, the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry, and the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology. Prof Akiyama is interested in widening the role of mental health and psychiatry in society and disseminating work capacity support programs for people with mental illness.
