Biography

Julie Millard is a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse, a national recognition through the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses, an Educator and a Consultant in Mental Health in Australia. She is the Regional Vice President for Oceania for the World Federation for Mental Health, and is an active member of several state and national community organisations, committees and mental health advisory panels. An appointment as an Official Visitor under the Mental Health Act offers the opportunity to be an independent advocate in mental health inpatient units, Emergency Departments and community centres to ensure high quality care and treatment is provided.
Julie works with a diverse range of peer led, community managed and government organisations, with the aim of empowering people with information and knowledge to make informed choices that improve their own physical and mental health, and wellbeing and that of others in the community with whom they live and work. Julie also co-designs and co-facilitates advocacy, wellbeing and mental health workshops with a Sydney Recovery College.
Julie is a Member of the WFMH’s Trauma Section, Peer Work Section and the Human Rights Section which developed the Declaration on Mental Wellbeing and Human Rights of Refugees and Children.
