Biography

Julie Millard is a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse, a national
recognition through the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses, an
Educator, and a Consultant in Mental Health in Australia. She is a Board
Director and Regional Vice President for Oceania for the World
Federation for Mental Health (WFMH).
Julie is an active member of several state and national community
organisations, committees, and mental health advisory panels. Julie
designs and delivers training packages on mental health/illness, recovery
and rehabilitation and suicide awareness to consumers, carers and
families, community managed organisations, government departments
and community groups. Codesign and cofacilitation of advocacy,
wellbeing and mental health workshops occurs with people with lived
experience for a Western Sydney Recovery College. Previous work has
included the development and facilitation of training for health care
professionals at the New South Wales Institute of Psychiatry.
Julie is a Member of the WFMH’s Sections on Trauma, Women’s Mental
Health, and the Human Rights Section which has developed the
Declaration on Mental Wellbeing and Human Rights of Refugees and
Children; the COVID 19 - Greater Protection Needed in Psychiatric
Hospitals paper; and the WFMH Declaration on the Mental Health Crisis
in Venezuela. Julie is the Chair and previous presenter of the Women’s
Mental Health Webinar Working Group for WFMH producing 3-4
webinars each year.
Julie worked as a Clinical Facilitator in Mental Health for the University of
Western Sydney, participated in the development of the Certificate IV in
Mental Health, and was guest lecturer for undergraduate students at
Sydney University. Suicide awareness, impact of trauma and mental ill
health has been the focus for many conference presentations and various
articles accepted for publication.
Julie’s proficiency as an educator has resulted in active participation on
the Professional Development and Education Mental Health Nursing
Reference Group (NSW Nurses Association), Aggression in the Workplace
Education Development Committee, and Chair of the Sexual Health
Education Training Group for an Area Health Service. Julie holds a
Bachelor of Nursing and has undertaken continuous professional
development to remain at the forefront of reforms in mental health both
nationally and globally.
